It’s 101 degrees today here in Marina del Rey! May I officially declare it summer?
What’s more refreshing on such a hot day than a tall, icy glass of LEMONADE? Yum!
Sadly, the stuff we grew up on is a bit more sugar than lemon. With the first two ingredients being sugar and high fructose corn syrup (Followed by several lab-created difficult to pronounce cancer-causers), it’s not surprising that Country Time Lemonade drinkmix delivers 32 grams of sugar per 160z glass. But that’s nothing compared to what Mrs. Diabetes herself, Paula Deen delivers. Her homemade lemonade recipe contains 258 calories per serving and 67 grams of sugar! That’s more sugar than 10 Krispy Kreme donuts! You trying to kill us, Lady? Wait, don’t answer that.
As you know I have a love / hate relationship with sugar: I love it’s taste but hate that sugar makes me fat and lethargic. So, when a client gave me a bushel of organic lemons from her tree today, I knew I had to share my simple 3 ingredient Stevia-Sweetened Lemonade recipe. At 20 calories and only 2 grams of sugar, that being the natural fructose from lemons, you can afford to imbibe on this refreshment.
INGREDIENTS
2 cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice (from about 10 organic lemons)
1 tsp stevia (the concentrated kind, we use Trader Joe’s Organic 100% Pure Stevia Extract)
12 cups of water
DIRECTIONS
Mix ingredients together. Chill and serve over ice. Homemade and healthy is hard, huh?!
